I recently did an interview with R.A.D. Vinyl about starting Analog Edition, running a vinyl record label, etc. You can read the whole piece here.
Analog Edition
Thanks to Matt for taking the time to answer some questions about his label Analog Edition. I’ve been impressed with everything I have heard him release and look forward to hearing more…
Why start a label?
I run the music blog Everybody Taste and for my yearend best albums list for 2010 I picked Break Mirrors by Blake Mills (member of pre-Dawes band Simon Dawes, touring and session guitarist). I can’t remember what social medium it was—email, Twitter, etc—but someone said something like, “Great pick! I wish it was on vinyl.” And a lightbulb basically went off. Why wouldn’t an album this amazing exist on my favorite medium, the vinyl record?
When and how did it start?
Analog Edition started last winter. My first move was contacting Blake Mills and his record label Record Collection about pressing Break Mirrors onto vinyl. While they wanted to retain the rights for the LP, they were fully on board and excited about putting out the double A-side 7” with “Hey Lover” and “Winter Song.” The rest fell into place from there.
